I have a memory of seeing a photo in a National Geographic magazine when I was young, of a partially buried skull emerging from the dirt with a sprouted plant growing out of one eye socket. This image which has stuck with me, and I’ve returned to it a number of times. This piece is a reinterpretation of an earlier skull painting.
